In addition to being able to be processed on a polymer-based prepreg production line, Isovolta says Cerapreg scores points with a wide spectrum of characteristics. The material is said to withstand a mechanical load at 900°C, is resistant to temperature change and is quasi-ductile. As a result of the glazing process, the porous material is also airtight and remains thermally and mechanically stable, insulating thermally and electrically. Cerapreg is also customizable —the design is either rolling stock (prepreg) or custom-built depending on the customer specifications — and upon request, it can be shaped into any 3D shape without loss to the material characteristics; there is no risk of flaking.

Cerapreg is said to enable a weight reduction up to 40% as compared to current non-ceramic options. It is able to be stored at low-cost, as storage does not need to take place in a specific thermal environment. The material is also not subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) regulations, and, Isovolta says, is offered at an inexpensive price.
