I take sun protection very seriously– my skin is pretty sensitive, especially being as pale as I am. With wider brims, sunhats offer top notch coverage while adding that “finishing touch” to your summer outfits. Over the years I’ve developed quite a collection, including my beloved Peter Beaton straw hat. While rounding up the best sun hats for women, I found a few I’m tempted by despite my stash…. When I saw the first sunhat with the turned down brim, I was struck by how chic it was, especially with such a tall crown! While I’m not sure I’d wear the brim turned up like the model, I imagine your face and shoulders get plenty of shade with it down. The navy bow sunhat has been a favorite for years and I bring it on every summer trip because it’s packable. At $65, my cost-per-wear is a fraction of a penny at this point. It’s one of the best beach hats, hands down. Tuckernuck sells a fedora version that’s also packable, if that’s more your style! One more packable option: this textured straw sunhat from J.Crew, which has been popping back up on the website every summer for years. It’s definitely a fan favorite and one of the best sun hats for women!
As someone with a big head, I was thrilled to see a review saying this floppy brim hat runs large. The casual look of the crocheted straw is great for certain outfits! I’m a sucker for anything blue and white gingham, and knowing this hat is a collab with Weezie makes me love it even more. Sarah Bray sent me one of their hats a couple years ago– it’s since sold out, but this one with the wide black ribbon is super elegant. Finally, in the spirit of sun safety, I wanted to share this hat because the brim is just so wide. Practical for walking down the street? No. Practical for sitting by the beach? Definitely.

One thing I don’t take for granted in adulthood (especially in my 30s!) is how wonderful it is to make new friends. Without a school or college throwing you together by chance, it can be hard to find your people. I’ve moved so much in my life and I’m grateful for all the friends I’ve made along the way- but oh man is there something special about making new friends in your 30s. Maybe it’s because it’s so rare! I met @samanthavarvel a couple of years ago and we hit it off immediately. We met up in the city a few weeks later (and just days after I had given birth!) and I watched in awe as she mothered her own children- she gave me the confidence to get out into the world with a baby, including breastfeeding in public for the first time 😅 I have watched her bravely dive into a career change. She captures life so beautifully and inspires me daily 🤍
Halloween 2023 was 💯 (and 1)! 🐶🖤🤍 If you need a good serotonin boost, highly recommend going trick or treating with a two year old.
